North Queensland Plants
Welcome to these pictures of Australian plants. Our main interests are parasitic and carnivorous plants so there are many Australian species featured.
As we live in Cairns, North Queensland, the site has many North Queensland plants but there are pictures from all over Australia. We also spend alot of time looking at alpine and desert plants. The pictures are subject to the image use policy below. All the photos are of plants in the wild and untouched photos are used and locations given wherever possible. The datum for the GPS is WGS84. We spend a lot of time in the bush identifying and photographing plants in their natural habitat. All North Queensland plants featured are from the botanical districts of Burke QBU, Kennedy North QKN and Cook QCO.High resolution photos are available on request.
All plants have been identified using references from the reference list. Specific references and articles are cited on the webpages.Plant names are consistent with the Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) and locations are checked against http://www.ala.org.au/.Where possible any name updates are referenced accordingly. We welcome comment on the site and have many other photos of plants which are not yet on the site. The site currently features about 700 different Australian plants.
There is a page with a list of the plants collected by Banks and Solander on the Endeavour with Captain Cook at Cooktown in 1770 with links to plants featured on the site.
All references are regularly checked and updated.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have followed a link from another site to an Australian Parasitic Plant species, you will need to navigate from this page via the Australian Parasitic Plants link to the relevant species page. The directory structure for the Australian Parasitic Plants section has had to be rebuilt and links from external sites may be affected.
